Moderate to Severe TBI / Treatment and Settings of Care
Transcript
Lt Col Reynolds
There are typically several stages of treatment for moderate to severe TBI, but it’s important to remember that no two patients and no two brain injuries are exactly the same. That means that each treatment plan will follow a unique trajectory and pace that’s best suited to the individual patient and their circumstances.
Maj Hemstad
The general stages of treatment include acute care, post-acute care, day rehabilitation, and community re-entry, and each takes place in a different setting of care. Depending on how they progress and the precise nature of their injury, TBI patients may enter, exit, and re-enter various stages of treatment. Treatment may be needed continuously or intermittently throughout the person’s life.
