The U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps maintains a website to inform military members on personal legal affairs and preventive law. You can find information about Trusts, Powers of Attorney, legal services and resources, and advanced medical directives.
The Armed Forces Judge Advocate General’s Corps is comprised of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard Judge Advocate General’s Corps. The Corps provides free legal assistance to all active duty service members, reservists on active duty for 30 days or more, and retirees from all branches of the service, and their lawful dependents, based upon available resources and personnel. Most are located on or near a military installation. To locate a legal assistance attorney, consult the Armed Forces Legal Assistance website.
The American Bar Association has a standing committee on Legal Assistance for Military Personnel (LAMP). Its website contains helpful information.
Some VA facilities host non-VA legal service providers that may be able to assist veterans free of charge. Consult the Veterans Affairs website or the VA Veterans Justice Outreach Specialist at the closest VA Medical Center for additional information regarding available legal services and resources.
